Madeline Bates
I am focused on becoming a dedicated and reliable journalist to serve the community I represent–whether it be in Arizona or beyond. I enjoy giving a voice to smaller communities that are impacted by big events. I dream of starting a newsroom in my hometown of Missoula, Montana to ensure that the truth is never compromised.
Much of my work is through writing as I have experience in digital reporting and social media. I have enjoyed my time in Arizona and I look forward to my final year as a student before I graduate. I am proud to announce that during my time at ASU, I have served as managing editor for The Chic Daily and I have received the Richard Dalton Memorial Scholarship for my work and dedication to the craft of journalism. I traveled to Cuba in Summer 2023 to explore the nation's media landscape and study the culture of a nation with limited freedom. In Spring 2025 I worked in Washington D.C. at ASU's DC Bureau as a Congressional reporter.
